Outline of Final Research Achievements

The research aims to explore how medical/life-care devices and robots have been developed to make them highly proficient.
We conducted interviews to overseas firms as well as Japanese firms. Especially, we interviewed a US firm for surgical robots and a Danish firm for nursing devices.
As a result, we found that users' feedback are hard to be directly incorporated into the product development process in these fields so that some intermediary and/or interpreting firms are required to assist the inclusions. Further discussion on user innovation are expected to articulate.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでユーザーイノベーションは顧客あるいは消費者が主導するものだと議論されてきたが、医療・介護用機器やロボットに関しては、ユーザーだけではイノベーションを起こすのは難しい。関係者への聞き取り調査により、ユーザーの声を翻訳する機能や仲介機能を持つ主体が必要であることが分かった。つまり、医療や介護に従事するプロフェッショナルの要望を製品設計に落とし込むには医工連携を促進する研究者か相応の技術者がメーカーに必要である。
高齢社会において、今後も患者への負担の少ない医療や介護を支援する機器やロボットの開発は必定であるが、その開発スピードを上げるには中間的存在の育成も必要であることが分かった。
