Outline of Final Research Achievements

The present study discussed the selection of local capable people for the creation of learning support system related to the field of social and adult education focusing on the municipality of Tokyo and the London County Council during the interwar period. Based on the historical documents, I clarified principally the organization of instructors responsible for the Music Education for Citizens and the Evening Meeting for Physical Education in the municipality of Tokyo, and the panels of instructors system of the evening institutes which became the setting for adult education activities in the London County Council.

東京市とロンドン・カウンティ・カウンシルのアプローチは異なるものの、大都市の多様な専門家の組織化による学習支援体制の構築を、社会教育・成人教育活動の成立・発展に関わる極めて重要な課題と捉えていたことを実証的に解明した。今日、生涯学習が量的に普及する中で、この研究成果は、学習支援の仕組みや担い手のあり方を探究し、学びの質向上を実現する基礎的研究としての意義を持つ、と考える。
