Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the 2017AY, I spent September/October in the UK and Ireland. In the UK, I made use of the education library at Oxford University to copy textbooks, and then interviewed teachers in Manchester and Plymouth. In addition, I was able to travel to Ireland, where I interviewed teachers in the County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and then used the National Library and the library of Trinity College in Dublin to copy textbooks. In February/March I traveled to the US. In Michigan, I made use of the education library at Michigan State University and in North Carolina I interviewed teachers.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The research is somewhere between rather smoothly and slightly delayed. I was able to interview teachers, but the textbooks that the schools use or ones that are widely used are not as readily available. Most research libraries do not keep copies of school textbooks, despite their research value. As such, I have had to work harder to try to find specific textbooks.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I have been in contact with teachers in Hokkaido about interviewing them regarding Ainu education and will contact teachers in Kawasaki for similar issues for resident Koreans. I am planning on going to Kansai as well to address buraku education.

Causes of Carryover |
I will be traveling domestically on a number of occasions and will be using this during this year. I have not yet completed my equipment purchases as well.
