Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In summer 2019, I traveled to the UK and Ireland to continue interviews. The primary part of the time during the trip was to gather more information on the primary minority group in Ireland, a group known as "The Travellers." In order to better understand how they are presented in textbooks.I was able to conduct interviews with Traveller support groups and gain access to more within the education system. In the fall, I hired a student worker to help with the archiving and coding of the textbook materials used in the project. The student worked to put all the materials from the various countries and various textbooks into one manageable system. During the 2019AY, I gave two presentations using materials and information gathered from the research grant: “Minority issues in Textbooks; Content vs. Desire” European Association of Japanese Studies (EAJS) Japan Conference, University of Tsukuba. “マイノリティ教育:教科書の内容と若者の関心”[Mainoriti kyoiku: Kyokasho no naiyo; to wakamonono no kanshin Minority Education: Textbook materials and Student views] 異文化間教育学会、明治大学
