Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Problem (1), Single flag-type energy harvester: Optimum shape design is being considered, based on a perturbation method-approach applied to Theodoresen's analytical fluid-load model. A fundamental, analytical stability study of a hanging flag in fluid flow is being developed as well.
Problem (2), A system of many interacting flag-type energy harvesters: A computational model based on an articulated flag model and a discrete vortex flow model has been developed. (In principle, any number of flags is possible; the number is limited only by the computer memory.) The analysis module has been completed. An optimization module (for determining the optimum positions of the individual flags, for maximum power output) is under development.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Problem (1) "Single flag-type energy harvester" is a little bit delayed due to difficult analytical challenges (but not worse than they will be overcome).
On the other hand, Problem (2) "A system of many interacting energy harvesters" has been advanced a bit further than was expected at this time.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Basically, the original plan will be followed.
In FY 2017 the theoretical part of Problem (1) will be completed and an experimental verification will be carried out.
The theoretical/numerical part of Problem (2) will be continued.
