Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Crop will relatives, defined as will plant taxa that have a relatively close relationship to cultivated species, are essential components of ecosystem. A growing number of crops have benefited from traits introgressed from distant wild relatives. Here we address this needs in chickpea, an important legume crop. In the third fiscal year, we analyzed morphological and climate data. The results show that geographical and environmental determinants genetic structure of wild relatives of chickpea.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Morphological evaluation and environmental analysis are progressing smoothly. The genomic data received late from company. However, the parts of genomic data analysed. We therefore expect the genomic data will be sufficient for the genetic analysis and will be completed.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the next fiscal year, the morphological and environmental evaluation will be continued. Genomic analysis will be performed to characterize the adaptive diversity of distantly related wild of chickpea and to understand genetic composition of rare and endangered species.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The RAD-sequencing generates a data set consisting of several thousand genetic markers distributed throughout coding and non-coding parts of the genome. These dataset as well as morphological and ecological data will allow for a fine-scale assessment of population structure, identify the relative importance of microevolutionary processes, and genomic composition of rare and threatened species. The major expenses will be required for genomic analysis. The travel expenses for participating in the conference are needed.
