Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the last fiscal year we have completed our analysis of the JEV neuronal transcriptome employing the NovaSeq 6000 platform and the validation of interesting candidate genes that are differentially regulated upon infection. We have shown that the sestrin 2 (SESN2) and the tribbles 3 pseudokinase (TRIB3) are both significantly upregulated in JEV and also Zika virus infected SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. Interestingly, SLC7A11 and SLC3A2 mRNA were also both deregulated in JEV-infected SH-SY5Y cells and encode the two constituent subunits of the plasma membrane xCT amino acid antiporter that relieves oxidative stress by export of glutamate and import of cystine. We have submitted our research findings to Virus Genes and are currently addressing reviewer comments pertaining to our manuscript.
