Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed and evaluated the “minimally invasive laser irradiating device” for stereotactic photodynamic therapy for malignant brain tumors. The development of a noble fiberscope enabling wide spread homogenous irradiation is still currently in progress, however, we developed a new fiberscope enabling wider range irradiation than conventional one, and evaluated the basic performance of the fiberscope.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究成果を生かし、今後ファイバの先端形状加工を含めた改良がなされ、本低侵襲レーザー内視鏡治療器を用いた脳腫瘍に対する定位的光線力学療法が可能になれば、特に深部に位置する悪性脳腫瘍に対する有効な治療法の一助になるものと考えている。
