Outline of Final Research Achievements

Administration of GLP-1 receptor agonists has the effect of reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. However, there are few reports on the protective effect of GLP-1 on myocardial stunning.
In this study, we investigated the effect of pre-ischemic or post-reperfusion administration of liraglutide on recovery from myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in a porcine myocardial stunning model. Administration prior to ischemia and after reperfusion has been shown to improve recovery from myocardial stunning.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

GLP-1受容体作動薬リラグルチドは2型糖尿病の治療薬である。更に心血管合併症のリスク軽減効果も報告されている。何故、心血管合併症のリスク軽減効果が認められるのかはすべてが解明されている訳ではない。今回、GLP-1受容体を介した心筋保護には薬理学的プレ及びポストコンディショニング効果の可能性が示唆された。これは、周術期に糖尿病患者に使用することで周術期に心筋保護効果を得られ心筋虚血のリスクを抑えることができる可能性があることを示唆する。
