Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, I investigated the relationship between political integration of the Carpathian Basin and river ecosystems in the 18 century. The purpose of this research was to combine the results of historical research with the study of folklore and conduct fieldwork in this topic. In the historical research, it was confirmed that the relationship between the inhabitants and the river varied in each region(e.g. upstream and downstream regions), and that there was a big difference in the reactions of each region to the flood control projects led by the Habsburg kings. In the field study, especially in the northeastern part of Hungary, I could observe the structural remnants of the use of rivers by local residents in pre-modern times and the state of the present continuous use of seasonal floods.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
