Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、ボトムアップ法で合成した細い幅を持つグラフェンナノリボン(GNR)を表面に規則正しく自己組織化させ、ナノリボン間の脱水素縮環反応を行う“表面パズル化反応”を提案し、全く新しい原理に基づく1~10nm幅を持つ“炭素ベルト”表面合成法の実現を目指す。本研究で提案する新しい表面合成法を用いることにより、従来ボトムアップ法やトップダウン法では、困難であった1~10nmの幅を持つ世界初の“炭素ベルト”の大量合成が可能となり、1次元、2次元系の中間に当たる新材料の物性に興味が持たれる。大きなインパクトが期待される。今年度は、ボトムアップ法により表面上に作製したGNRを自己組織化させて並べ、分子間縮環反応を誘起させ、幅1-10nmの炭素ナノベルを合成する新手法を開発した。はじめに表面で定まった位置での分子間縮環反応(表面パズル化反応)を実現するのに必要な、エッジに周期的突起を持つアセン型GNRを形成させる前駆体分子の有機合成を行った。この前駆体分子を用いて、我々が開発した2ゾーン型化学気相成長法を用いて、低真空中、不活性ガス気流下で前駆体分子を昇華させ、250℃に加熱した金属基板上で重合反応を行わせ、前駆体高分子を生成させた。更に前駆体高分子を500℃で加熱し、分子内脱水素縮環反応を誘起し、金(111)表面上に高密度に自己組織化させたGNRを表面合成した。次に形成したGNRを600℃で加熱することにより、自己組織化されたGNR同士が分子間反応を行い、幅が広がり且つ二次元に連結したGNRネットワーク構造が形成することを明らかにした。
