Outline of Annual Research Achievements

温度差マランゴニ効果によって発現する閉鎖系内粒子挙動に関して,ハーフゾーン液柱を対象とした実験系を用いて,3次元粒子追跡速度計測法を導入し,特にこれまで観察が困難とされていた自由表面近傍での粒子追跡実現を目指した.また,粒子集合現象(通称PAS)を対象として,存在が知られていた2種類のPAS(SL-1 PASおよびSL-2 PAS)とHydrothermal wave不安定性に起因する温度波,さらに自由表面の動的・静的変形間の空間的相関に関し,試験流体のプラントル数を変数として明らかにした.以上の知見を研究協力者(オーストリア)と共有し,研究成果の一部は英文学術誌に発表済み,さらにもう1編の論文を投稿準備中である.上記系に加え,周囲のみを保持した自由液膜を対象とし,温度差マランゴニ効果による粒子集合・分散過程に注目して実験的研究を実施した.アメリカの宇宙飛行士であるD.Pettit博士との共同研究体制を実現し,博士が国際宇宙ステーション上で実施した微小重力実験で得られている成果を地上実験を通じて検証し,そのメカニズムを解明した.さらに,温度差マランゴニ効果の強度を高くすることにより,液柱とは異なる系でのHydrothermal wave不安定を実現した.その発生条件,波数,位相速度などを明らかにした.以上の成果は,英文学術誌に発表済みである.
また,自由表面と粒子の相互作用に関し,液体外に存在する粒子との相互作用に注目して研究に着手した.フランスの研究グループと国際共同研究体制を実現し,実験的・理論的アプローチによって相互作用時の液体挙動について明らかにした.特に,相互作用による液体前縁部の局所的変形・加速現象を対象とし,その加速条件を明らかにしつつ,その理論モデルを構築した.以上の成果は英文学術誌に2編発表済み,もう1編を投稿中である.
