Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study is to elucidate the mental health status of the bereaved who have experienced separation by death, and the factors affecting such a status. The study also aims to develop a bereavement support program. A semi-structured interview was performed with five people who have experienced separation by death in the area of critical care, as well as seven professionals who are providing support to the bereaved. The study found that the bereaved were suffering from anxiety and insomnia or depressive tendencies and had past histories of visiting a mental health clinic or the administration of sleeping pills or antidepressants. Moreover, it was found that the bereaved were seeking support from people other than their family or extended family. The study suggested that the lack of community support has been affecting the mental health condition of the bereaved.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
