Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research achievements in FY2016 are summarized as follows. 1. we proposed a utility-based transmission power allocation policy for the uplink transmission in femtocell networks. We provide a novel floating-ceiling water-filling (FCWF) algorithm with little computational overhead to obtain the optimal solution for the joint utility optimization problem. Numerical results confirm that the joint utility and average SINR can be significant improved with the proposed method. 2. We proposed a pricing strategy for macro-femto HetNets with a user centric vision, namely, mobile users would have their own interest to make rational decisions on selecting between the macrocell and femtocells, in order to maximize their benefit. We formulate a Stackelberg game to analyze the interactions between the MNO and users, and give a equilibrium solution for the Stackelberg game. Via an extensive simulations, we evaluate the proposed pricing strategy in terms of its efficiency with respect to the revenue optimization. Papers have already been published in the proceedings of IEEE CCNC 2017, IEEE access, etc. Besides the theoretical results, we also developed an iOS application to let users monitor and react to the time-dependent prices.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As mentioned in the summary of research achievements, an iOS application is developed to let users monitor and react to the proposed pricing scheme. At the next stage of the research, we are going to use this application to survey users and investigate their responses to time-dependent prices. We believe that the survey results will inspire new interest in research.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
At the next stage of the research, we are going to use this application to survey users and investigate their responses to time-dependent prices. Base on the data collected, we seek to evaluate: (i) users’ tradeoff between the cost of cellular data usage and their willingness to delay; (ii) how much an intelligent bandwidth consumption scheduler can save on users’ bills while satisfying their QoS requirements; (iii) the battery consumption cost when adopting the intelligent scheduler.
Results will be summarized and submitted to high-level conferences and transactions.

Causes of Carryover |
For attending three international conferences and four domestic conferences in FY2017.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
Overseas travel expenses: 1. IEEE GLOBECOM 2017, Singapore 200,000 Yen; 2. IEEE CCNC 2018, Las Vegas, USA 200,000 Yen; 3. CNSM 2017, Tokyo, Japan 20,000 Yen. Registration fee for international conferences: 60,000 + 60,000 + 60,000 = 180,000 Yen. Domestic travel expenses: 1.IEICE Society Conference 30,000 Yen; 2.IEICE General Conference 30,000 Yen; 3.Technical meetings (twice) 50,000 + 50,000 = 100,000 Yen.
