Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, I conducted archaeological analyses of the organic remains from the Nara Palace and Capital Site. Especially, I focused on a large number of wood residues left after making woodworking from the Site and conducted classifying and detailed observation of them. Through the archaeological analyses of residues, I clarified detailed aspects of the wood working and acquired new findings of the wood usage Cycle in the Site.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

都城から出土する有機質遺物は、その資料的制約から十分に研究対象とされてきたとはいえない。それらの資料に焦点を絞り、それらの詳細な観察、計測、実測、樹種同定という考古学的検討を通して木工活動の一端を明らかにした点は、基礎研究の第一歩として大きな成果であるといえる。また、収蔵されたままの資料を見出し、検討を加え、学術的意義を付した上で公に提示することができた点で大きな社会的意義があるといえる。
