Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year the following has been accomplished. First, a literature review has been completed. Based on this a theoretical basis for the subsequent parts of the research has been elaborated. Second, work has progressed on collecting and cataloging the corporate laws of the selected target jurisdictions, though this remains a work in progress. This is the most time consuming elements of the research and will continue into the second year. Third, identifying the best source of data in comparable for of income across countries is also a work in progress. The Gini coefficient will likely be used since it is available and comparable, but owing to certain deficiencies we are still exploring other data sources to supplement or replace it. Finally a presentation on one part of the research was made at an conference (Asian law and Society Conference).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The progress is going reasonably well but the original schedule has proven to have been overly ambitious. The work on gathering information on laws in target jurisdictions is the slowest, which is likely a result of the sheer large number of jurisdictions which were initially selected (which will likely be reduced in the end to make it more manageable).
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Work on the second and third elements described in the "Summary of Research Achievements" above will continue and questionnaires (see the original research proposal) are being prepared to be sent out. Preliminary contact with scholars in some (but not all) target jurisdictions in regard to these has been established and will be followed up on.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The main budget is to be devoted to travel expenses for international conference presentations on interim results of the research. Additional funds will be disbursed for minor relevant expenses (purchases of paper for printing materials, file folders and related matter).
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
One international conference (Asian Law and Society Conference to be held in Taiwan in December, 2017) will be attended to present interim research results. It is intended that a second conference will also be attended, though the ultimate conference has not yet been decided.
