Outline of Final Research Achievements

In an attempt to uncover the origin and diversity of exoplanetary systems, we conducted observational studies of exoplanets around low-mass stars. Our studies included 1. development of a new Doppler technique in the near infrared, 2. search for transiting planets around low-mass stars by combining the space-based transit surveys with ground-based follow-up observations, 3. characterizations of transiting planets around low-mass stars.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

太陽系外惑星系の多様性の起源には多くの謎があり，系外惑星系の観測により惑星の分布や統計的特徴を明らかにすることでその起源に迫ることができる。本研究は，これまであまり探査が進んでいなかった低質量星のまわりの惑星の発見によってその分布を詳細に明らかにしたとともに，低質量星観測の方法論の開拓によって今後の系外惑星探査のための新たな枠組みを構築した。また，これまでほとんど分かっていなかった極めて低温な恒星のまわりの惑星の特徴を明らかにした。
