Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Development of the Helium-filling method and construction of the large exit window for SAMURAI spectrometer have been completed. Both were successfully tested under the experimental conditions. Stable concentration of He above 95% in 10 cubic meters volume of SAMURAI gap has been obtained. The results of the test were submitted to the annual RIKEN Accelerator Progress Report 2016 and were also reported at the SAMURAI International Collaboration Workshop. He-filling system is now ready to be used for the final experiment. Mass production phase of the ASIC preamplifier chips for the silicon trackers has been also completed. 60 new chips with special packaging are delivered to RIKEN. Working plan for testing the ASIC chips and for design and production of the preamplifier boards, based on the present chip design, is established in cooperation with collaborators from the Atomki institute (Hungary) and Washington University in St. Louis (US). Development of the preamplifiers is currently in progress. Other detection systems have been prepared, such as plastic hodoscopes for protons and fragments. PI has taken an active role in assembling, tuning, and testing these detectors in a parasitic mode during recent experiments at SAMURAI. In addition, an upgrade of the gamma-ray detector CATANA was performed by introducing new amplifier circuits and PMT holders into the detector.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Person in charge of developing preamplifier ASIC chips has left RIKEN. PI had to take responsibility on coordinating production, packaging and delivery of the ASIC chips.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Preamplifier boards are expected to be ready and delivered to RIKEN by September 2017. During the fall 2017 they will be tested and prepared for the experiment using existing silicon sensors. In case of delay with the preamplifiers, an alternative experimental scheme has been developed to perform measurements using old version of the electronics for the silicon trackers. Beam time request to perform the experiment will be submitted in summer 2017. The experiment is expected to be performed by the end of 2017. If no beam time is allocated this year, the experiment will run in the first half of 2018. Analysis and first results will be obtained within 6 month after performing the experiment.

Causes of Carryover |
The difference money 31,746円 will be spent next fiscal on miscellaneous goods, mainly on small electronics parts such as cables, hard disk or raspberry Pi for data handling, etc. as required for testing preamplifier boards once they are ready. The final configuration of the beam line may also require purchase of additional small vacuum parts such as flange, O-ring, screws etc.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
Most of the money will be spent in the first half of the next fiscal year, depending on the readiness of the preamplifier boards.
