Outline of Final Research Achievements

Chemotherapy agents such as platinum and taxane frequently cause severe peripheral neuropathy and there is currently no effective strategy to prevent this.
In this study, we found a new drug for prevention of the chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, using screening system targeting nerve fiber degenerations. Dimethyl fumarate attenuates oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy without affecting both the anti-tumor activity and the other toxicities of oxaliplatin, in culture cells and rodents.
