Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project focused on infections occurred during hypothermia therapy and studied with a view toward to obtain more information regarding “hypothermia-induced infections”. In addition, we aimed to establish effective and realistic diagnostic markers that reflect infections during hypothermia therapy. During the study period, we revealed that patients with hypothermia therapy was susceptible to complications, especially with coagulopathy. Moreover, such coagulopathy deteriorate with secondary infection. In addition, we reported unique infections treated in our intensive care unit.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

敗血症を中心とした重症感染症においては、国際的ガイドラインの整備がすすみ机上では標準的な治療が展開できる準備が整いつつあるものの、個々の症例は多様性に富んでおり、個々の症例を丁寧に解析する必要性がある。また、敗血症診療の質向上のためには、グローバルな視点にたったガイドラインだけではなく、地域での問題点を明らかとし、地域における敗血症診療体制を樹立することが急務であることが示唆された。
