Outline of Final Research Achievements

During the process of bone regeneration using resorbable bone substitute materials, osteoclasts and osteoblasts appear on the surface of the material, occurring resorption of the material and formation of new bone. However, it was still unclear how osteoclasts couple to osteoblasts and promote osteogenesis on biomaterials. Recently, it has been reported that osteoclasts can directly regulate osteoblast differentiation through the secretion of coupling factors. In this study, we clarified the correlation between the physicochemical properties of bone substitute materials and the regulation of coupling factors.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
