Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The study proposed has been proceeded as originally planned. A multiple-baseline design across participants was utilized in this study. A total of two children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and complex communication needs (CCN) and their mothers participated in this research. With two mother-child dyads, all data collection procedures were completed in January, 2017. The mother participants were taught to implement communication intervention procedures using a researcher developed video-based and self-paced learning manual. Currently, the principal investigator (PI) has begun to write a manuscript of the research. From May to August, 2016, the PI obtained an approval for the current research from the Research Ethics Committee at University of Tsukuba as well as informed consent from participants. After obtaining the informed consent from the participants, pre-training, training, post-training, and one-month follow-up conditions were conducted with each mother-child dyad. Following the conclusion of the follow-up sessions, each mother was asked to complete a post-survey that consisted of seven questionnaires adapted from the Client Satisfaction Questionnaire ([CSQ]; Larsen, Attkisson, Hargreaves, & Nguyen, 1979).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The study has been proceeded as originally planned except that one of the mother-child dyad dropped out of the current study after the completion of the baseline condition. The child’s mother reported to the PI that her child had have presented a high level of stress in school and home at the time of the study. Therefore, the third mother-child dyad was not able to complete all data collection procedures including training, post-training, follow-up, and completion of the post-survey. However, other than the participant's withdrawal, all data collection procedures were completed with the other two mother-child dyads. Currently, the PI has been writing a manuscript of this research and expects to complete the writing by end of this July, 2017.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The PI will continue working on manuscript and submit to a journal by September, 2017. The research findings will be presented in three different conferences this year (i.e., the 43rd Association for Behavior Analysis International Annual Convention, May 25-29, Denver, Colorado, USA, the Korea Society for the Emotional and Behavioral Disorders Conference, May 12-13, Pusan, South Korea, the ninth Association for Behavior Analysis International Conference, November14-15, Paris, France). In this year, the PI and GAs will develop a website and manual for parents and practitioners, which provides information and resources about autism spectrum disorder. With the research findings and manual developed, the PI will hold a seminar at the University of Tsukuba.

Causes of Carryover |
To gather information related to the research topic, the principal investigator (PI) and two graduate assistants (GAs) planned to attend the 42nd Association for Behavior Analysis International Convention held in Chicago, USA, from last May 27th to 31st, 2016. However, since the conference did not offer research sessions conveying such information directly related to the current research, the PI and GA did not to attend the conference last year. The unexpended amount incurred from last fiscal year occurred for this reason.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
To present the research findings, the PI and two GAs will attend the 43rd Association for Behavior Analysis International Annual Convention from May 25 to 29 in Denver, Colorado, USA.
