Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project shows how "international relations" as we know it today could have been practiced differently by examining how contemporary East Asian state behavior might have been shaped by pre-19 century regional norms. It finds that alternatives to the Western dominated international system are available, although they are not without their problems. This three-year project has produced four book chapters, two book reviews, and one journal article, all by internationally renowned publishers.

一般的に、現代の「国際関係」はウェストファリア条約やヨーロッパ諸国が作り出した「国際」という概念の基に作られていると信じられている。国際関係学という学問領域はそのような世界の残りを犠牲にし、西洋の利益を反映させる世界観によって支配されてきた。この研究はより公平で包括的な脱植民地化された学問領域を再度描くための学術的研究に貢献する。この研究結果は日本の大衆に対してグローバル政治の一利害関係者として、民主化を求めていかなければならないということに気づかせることができる。
