Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I finished the implementation and the evaluation of a comfortable navigation framework for a passenger Personal Mobility Vehicle. The work was evaluated using questionnaires to extract user comfort/stress according to navigational styles. The navigation framework uses a discomfort map to build paths that result in comfortable navigation for the passenger. Results were published in a high impact international journal.

I did an analysis of passenger habituation where passenger stress was measured
with questionnaires and physiological sensors utilizing heart rate and skin conductance. The work models velocity of comfort of people on a robot during self driving and autonomous navigation.
Results were published in a high impact international conference paper.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I could do research in personal mobility vehicles where the main point was to achieve comfortable navigation.

In the first paper (journal) I concentrated in building a comfortable navigational framework for passenger personal mobility vehicles.

In the second paper I concentrated in building a velocity habituation method to achieve comfortable navigation where passenger stress was measured with physiological sensors.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In this last fiscal year I plan to build a passenger stress classifier based on deep autoencoders to detect the level of habituation to the wheelchair and the level of stress of passengers based on physiological data.

Causes of Carryover

The reason to leave budget from 2017 to be used on 2018 fiscal year is to finalize experiments and pay for the remaining international conferences and international journals to be written.
