| Research Abstract |
1. We proposed a method of evaluating the structural stability, robustness, and reliability of systems with network structures, and applied it to such systems as water supply network in Tokyo and road network in Manila.
2. We studied the influence on the whole road network in a big city when a part of the network is interrupted due to such reasons as traffic regulations, construction works, earthquakes. We also constructed computer systems to compute shortest routes for ambulance cars under such circumstances.
3. We proposed a numerical model to estimate the spatial distribution of victims of train passengers when an earthquake hit Tokyo metropolitan area whose hypocenter is directly below the populated area
4. We constructed a time dependent traffic assignment model for commuter traffic in Tokyo metropolitan railway network We have also demonstrated a paradoxical fact that operating both express trains and local stopping trains along a railway during rush hours lead to the delay of express trains, and discontinuing express service will be effective far smoother transportation.
5. We proposed a mathematical programming model to obtain an efficient spatial distribution of various power sources under recent circumstances of liberalization of electric power supply systems.
6. We have developed a model to predict a number of passengers when a new airport is constructed and open.
7. We proposed a model to obtain an optimal maintenance schedule for improving the railway track irregularities. Also proposed is a model to examine a possibility of switching freight transport by trucks to transport by trains to reduce the emission of CO_2, and applied the model to Tbkaido railway line.
8. Wilson's doubly-constrained entropy maximizing spatial interaction model is generalized in order to deal with trips with a halfway stop between origin and destination.
