| Research Abstract |
本研究は, 地震波トモグラフィー法と波形解析法などの地震学的手法を駆使し, 日本列島周辺から中国大陸にかけての東アジア全域における, 幾つかの地球科学の重要な研究テーマを解明した. この地域の活発な地震・火山活動は, 太平洋プレートの深い沈み込み及び地殻・上部マントルの構造不均質の影響を強く受けていることがわかった. これらの成果はこの地域の地震発生機構と島弧火山・大陸内部火山の起源の解明およびその災害の予測と軽減のために極めて重要である.
