Research Abstract |
The year 2006 has marked the 50th anniversary since Japan joined the United Nations in 1956. Regarding Japanese UN diplomacy so far, several interviews have been conducted on the hearings of the method of Oral history from ambassador including UN, related people to MOFA including Foreign Policy Bureau and those of UN. It also had been conducted of Oral history regarding UN diplomacy among domestic and overseas research institutes so far, these kinds of previous studies were collected as useful materials and made use of them in this project. Secondly, based upon these Oral history and interviews, the project researcher made an analysis based upon the three approaches of International Politics, International Law, International Political History and made presentations and held debate in the research symposium. The scholarly articles about the relevant theme have been published in books in connection with the Japan Association of International Politics and other publications. During conducting Oral history and interviews and studying further based upon respective analysis methods, it was reexamined on the important themes about the studies of Japanese UN diplomacy. As a result, common understanding has came to about the important issues of those following 4 points ; (1) What is the relationship with 21 century order? (2) Is Gulf War turning point in the history of Japanese UN diplomacy? (3) The future problems of UN Security reform (4) Why there are a few considerations on the economic and social relationships with UN? At this, further studies has been carried mainly focusing on these important issues and problems.
