Research Abstract |
This study carried out detailed petrological and fluid inclusions studies of high-grade metamorphic rocks from South India, Antarctica, and South Africa as well as related regions, that underwent extreme crustal metamorphism at more than 1000 degree. Based on detailed mineralogical and textural observations, we could constructed metamorphic pressure and temperature paths of individual regions, and successfully discussed the origin of the high-grade terranes related to the assembly of supercontinents such as Gondwana. We further performed fluid inclusion study of the rocks and identified CO2-rich fluid inclusions trapped during the growth of minerals. Our further studies on such CO2-rich inclusions indicate that CO2 was derived from mantle and the fluid probably played an important role on stabilizing the dry mineral assemblages in the UHT rocks.
