In this research project, we studied recent development of public sector modernization in Asia Pacific countries. Based on the literature review and field survey, the project team analyzed characteristics of public sector modernization emerging in the advanced industrial society like the US, Australia, and New Zealand and compared them with Asian countries like Japan, South Korea, and other east; Asian countries. In the process of study, the research member drafted a research paper on administrative reform and policy evaluation in Japan and presented it at the International Conference of the International Political Science Association in Fukuoka in 2006. The conference paper was edited for publication, and published in 2007. In 2007, both Koike and Kabashima participated in the International Conference of the Structure and Organization of the Government (SOG) of the IPSA on Korea to present a paper of decentralization and the merger of local government in Japan, In October 2007, Hiromi Kabashima visited Poland to present a paper on the Postal Privatization in Japan in the Japan Poland Study Association meeting.
