Research Abstract |
Falls and fracture are infirm cause. Since 90% or more of hip fracture of aged were caused by falls, fall is one of the most serious problem. And the elderly were declined activity of daily living by falling. To improve flexibility of lower limb, walking ability and muscular strength of the lower limb is effective in order to preserve and improve in ADL and QOL. Local authority and assisted living residence are using a exercise for prevent of falling in aged. But the evaluation methods have little scientific basis, evaluation method cannot evaluate easily. We focused that flexibility of lower limb, walking ability and muscular strength of the lower limb of those, who have abnormalities in toenail, are declined and increasing falling risk. This study is suggested the new evaluation index on the flexibility of lower limb, walking ability and muscular strength of the lower limb. They are living in a special elderly nursing home. In order to assess the change of their lower limb function, all subjects received the medical foot care for 1 year. Lower limb function of all the subjects, related the muscular strength, the flexibility of lower, distance of extroversion of the toe and walking ability, are measured at the medical foot care and they are investigated to assess the effectiveness of the purposed method. Parameters with significant differences between the before medical foot care and the after medical foot care were selected and summarized by principal component analysis into lower limb function assessment indices including lower limb function and flexibility and walking ability. The assessment score corresponded to questionnaire about actual activities in daily life. The results suggested that it was possible to assess the lower limb function of elderly numerically and to advise on their foot function, risk of falls, and active areas.
