Research Abstract |
The modern life style in Japan has been changing from the traditional style to the European and American, or industrialized style. People now expect a modern life style. On the other hand they also try to remember their own former style here called the Original Life Style. In this investigation we pursued studies on the Original Life Style as researched by folklorists in the early twentieth century and analyzed the relation between this original style and today's modern style extracted from the structure of citizens' consciousness on their own life style. Through the investigation following results are ascertained ; 1) In spite of the doctrine of folklorists in the early twentieth century the original life style in Japan existed at villages in mountain area. 2) In Edo-era former life style and living environment had been maintained at villages such as Itsuki, Gokanosho, Shiiba, Ichiu, Umaji and Totsugawa in mountain area of western Japan. 3) People who are now more than 50years old want stability of life in Japan. This tendency implies that they inherit the living consciousness of former days.
