Research Abstract |
SHINTOSHU was compiled sometime around the middle of the 14th century. It consists of ten volumes, fifty chapters in all. It has an irregular style which use a combination of Chinese and Japanese. That is why it is thought that SHINTOSHU is a difficult text for reading and understanding. Therefore the annotated edition of SHINTOSHU is not yet published though it is recognized to be an important material for the study of the medieval literature. In this study, I tried to make the recension of SHINTOSHU and transform the original style into a normal Japanese style which used Kanji and Hiragana. Then I collected the information that was necessary for the annotation by documents investigation and fieldwork, and analyzed them. The results of this study are as follows : (1) On chapters having contents of the story, the comparison of the variant texts was finished. (2) On from vol.6 to vol.8,transforming the original style into a normal Japanese style which used Kanji and Hiragana was finished. (3) Preparations for the annotation became completely by documents investigation and fieldwork. (4) In the process of the investigation, I discovered KASHIMA-DAIMYOJIN ENGI SOUSHI and KURIHARAGUN HATAMURA ENGI which were unknown materials. They related to the background of SHINTOSHU. I published the bibliographical introduction and the reprint of them in the articles. I will proceed with the study based on these results more from now on. In addition, I will publish the annotated edition of SHINTOSHU with FUKUDA Akira, ISHII Yukio and KOSUKEGAWA Ganta from the Miyaishoten in 2009.
