Research Abstract

Following results were obtained in our research on the novel amorphous color formers.
1)Novel chloromethanoates were synthesized from the corresponding phenols using triphosgene. Novel amorphous color formers were synthesized from the chloromethanoates and the amine generated from Basic Blue 3 by reduction using sodium hydrosulfite in basic condition
2)The acetonitrile solution of the color formers changed to blue by y irradiation. The absorbance at 644 nm corresponding to the generated dye form increased linearly with the amount of the radiation. The change was more significant than the oxocarbony-substituted color formers synthesized before.
3)Heating of the well grinded particles of the color formers till the melting point(204-205 degree) and then rapid cooling of the melt gave the amorphous film of the color formers. Amorphous film was checked by DSC and X-rays diffraction measurement
4)The amorphous film showed color change to blue after γ irradiation. Increase of the absorbance at 644 nm was observed like that of the solution. The color change was recognized by naked eyes after γ irradiation of 100 Gy. The color change occurred only at the surface of the amorphous film.
