Research Abstract |
Application of a series of organic dyes for zinc oxide solar cells prepared by the one-step cathode deposition template method was examined. Following informations were obtained : 1) Cell performance was improved by introducing long alkyl group at the indole moiety in semisquaric acids. The incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) was improved to 38.0%. 2) The addition of deoxycholic acid was effective for oxazines dyes. IPCE and solar-light-to-electricity conversion efficiency (η) were improved to 6.91 and 0.29%, respectively. 3) Among 2',4',5',7'-tetrafluoro-, -tetrachloro-, tetrabromo- (eosin Y), and -tetraiodo fluorescein derivatives, the IPCE value was in the following order : I (73%) > Cl (69%), Br (65%) > H (40%) > F (24%). 4) Carboxy group was best as an anchor group in squarylium dyes. 5) A N-Carboxyethyl indolenium derivative showed the best performance in heptamethinecyanine dyes. An Ethylcyclohexenyl derivative showed the best performance : IPCE (29%), J_(2.01 mA cm^<-2>). When dimethyl group was changed to dibuthyl group, short-circuit photocurrent density (J_) value increased to 2.30 mA cm^<-2>. 6) 3-(2-Carboxyethyl)-2-[4-(dimethylamino)styryl]benzothiazolium iodide showed the best performance as the sensitizer in flexible zinc oxide solar cell. The IPCE at around 490 nm,.J_, open-circuit photovoltage (V_<oc>), fill factor (ff), and η were observed to be 54.5 %, 6.22 mA cm^<-2>, 0.53 V, 0.59, and 1.94 %, respectively.
