Research Abstract

We found novel and simple synthetic method of high-charge-density sodium mica (Na-4-mica) which is distinguished from ordinary Na type micas by a layer charge per formula unit of approximately-2.0. The Na-4-mica and ordinary Na type mica was showed the conductivity of 3.4×10^<-4> S/cm and 1.2×10^<-6> S/cm at 650℃, respectively, which indicates that the high-charge-density micas have higher conductivity than ordinary charge-density micas. Firstly, Na^+ ion in Na-4-macas was ion exchanged by LiCl solution. The interlayer ion of obtained ion exchanger was hydrated Li^+ ion. As the hydrated Li^+ ion was dehydrated by heating, the conductivity was increased and showed the conductivity of 3.2×10^<-4> S/cm at 650℃. Secondly, Na^+ ion in Na-4-macas was exchanged by NH_3^+ ion. The ion exchanger heated at 600℃ had the conductivity of 1.3×10^<-6> S/cm at 650℃. This conductivity did not cause by migration of NH_3^+ ion but resulted from migration of H^+ ion liberated from NH_3^+ ion. The ion exchanger heated at 1000℃ had the structure of trisilicic type mica of which interlayer ion was proton, and showed the conductivity of 7.9×10^<-8> S/cm at 650℃. Thirdly, Na^+ ion in Na-4-macas was ion exchanged by acetic acid solution. The interlayer ion of ion exchanger was oxonium ion. The ion exchanger heated at 600-1000ーC had the same structure with NH_3^+ ion exchanger heated at 1000℃ and they showed the same conductivity.
We tried the fabrication of glass-ceramic separated high-charge-density calcium mica. The interlayer of the mica contains a large amount of Ca^<2+> ion which is almost the same size with Na^+ ion. By substituting the B_2O_3 for parts of Al_2O_3 in the high-charge-density calcium mica, we succeed the fabrication of the glass-ceramics. It showed the conductivity of 2.2×10^<-6>/cm at 650℃.
