Research Abstract

First, characteristics of a proportional solenoid which operates conventional proportion valve was analyzed by using Finite Element Analysis of magnetic field. As a result, it became clear that a triangular form in the magnetic path made proportional relation between coil current and the thrust of the solenoid. And, this proportional solenoid on the market was obtained the thrust about 120N when the coil rated current was 1A.
Next, a automatically measuring system of magnetic characteristics of a conventional proportion solenoid and a new actuator was made by using personal computer, AD and DA converters. And then, characteristics of the proportion solenoid was measured by this measuring system, this measuring value agreed with the above mentioned analysis value. Therefore, the Finite Element Analysis related to the proportional solenoid and this measuring system in this study could be verified.
After that, for obtaining design data of high thrust linear valve actuator, a cylindrical lin … More ear actuator with 4 numbers rectangular convex pole was designed. And this actuator was made and tested. At the same time, magnetic field analysis of the designed actuator was done. As a result, measured value of the actuator thrust agreed well with analysis one. And, it became clear that the force of the prototype actuator was approximately three times more than that of the conventional proportion solenoid at the rated current.
Finally, a new structural actuator was designed and it was attempted that the working range of the actuator was enlarged. Furthermore, the interval between the teeth was much smaller by changing the magnetic pole shape, and the actuator length was minimized. The thrust characteristics of the newly designed actuator were measured. As a result, the working range of the actuator was approximately two times more than that of the first prototype. Also, it became clear that the length of this actuator was shorter than that of a comparable solenoid on the market whose thrust and installation area to the valve body are the same. Less
