Research Abstract

CoFe magnetic thin films with high saturation magnetization, M_s, and large in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy field, H_k, have attracted great interest for GHz frequency use, because the high saturation magnetization can lead to higher permeability and higher ferromagnetic resonance frequency. Soft magnetic properties for high frequency applications include the combination of low coercive force, H_c, and large H_k, which are essential conditions for coherent spin rotation under the high frequency magnetic field. Although the presence of domain walls is inevitable in practical applications such as read/write heads or thin film inductors, interests in the direct observation of dynamic domain-wall behavior is increasing. In this work, a time-resolved imaging technique is used to study dynamic magnetization process in bcc-CoFe films with high saturation magnetization.
Dynamic magnetization process is studied in CoFe and CoFeB films for high frequency application by using a time-resolved imaging technique. The domain wall resonance has been found at 130 kHz in a slit-patterned Co_<35>Fe_<65> film with high saturation magnetization, and 220 kHz for CoFeB films. The domain wall mobility of 20 m/sOe was observed at the resonant frequency. The effective wall mass, the viscous damping constant, and the restoring force constant were evaluated in the CoFe and CoFeB films.
