| Research Abstract |
Vitamin K was revealed to suppress production of des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). DCP bound to cell surface receptor Met and stimulated cell proliferation through JAK-STAT signaling pathway. siRNA against Met and STAT inhibited DCP-induced signaling. DCP also stimulated vascular endothelial cells. DCP stimulated cell proliferative activity and cell migrative activity (1.5-fold and 2.2 fold, respectively) in HUVEC. DCP bound to vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and stimulated cell proliferation through MAPK in HUVEC. VEGFR inhibitor abrogated the effect of DCP in cell migration and cell proliferation. These results indicate that DCP contributes both cell proliferation of HCC and angiogenesis. Suppression of DCP production may be a useful treatment for HCC.
