Research Abstract

Objective : to investigate the changes of renal function after the simultaneous injection of different type of contrast media including Magnevist (Gd-DTPA) and Iopamiron (Iopamidol) on healthy and streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus nephropathy rats.
Materials and methods : Experimental groups consist of healthy rats and streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus nephropathy rats. Test solutions are contrast media mixture group (Magnevist+Iopamiron), physiological saline group, and manitol group.
Results : Hematocrit value was not increased. Urine volume was increased without any significant difference among groups. Serum creatinine value was transiently increased, and declined with time. There was no significant increase in blood urine nitrogen value. No significant decrease in Creatinine clearance was observed. Fraction excretion of sodium was transiently increased, while no significant difference was observed among groups. Free water clearance was transiently decreased, while no significant difference was observed among groups.
Conclusion : The changes of renal function after the simultaneous injection of different type of contrast media was not serious and transient on healthy and streptozotocin induced diabetes mellitus nephropathy rats
