Research Abstract

標題の「もう一つのヒトう蝕原因菌」とはレンサ球菌類のソブリヌス菌(Ss菌)である。ミュータンス菌(Sm菌)でこの30年間に明らかにされた病原遺伝子の多くは、Ss菌では分かっていない。そんな遺伝子の1つであったグルカン結合タンパク質C遺伝子(gbpC)とよく似た遺伝子をSs菌で同定した。gbpC遺伝子は、Sm菌のグルカン依存性凝集という現象に関与する唯一の遺伝子であり、この菌の病原性に関わるが、Ssでは同様な遺伝子が予想外にも4つ存在し、それらがそれぞれ異なった役割でSs菌のグルカン依存性凝集に関与していたことを明らかにした。
