Research Abstract |
To enhance nursing students' clinical practice capability in physical assessment techniques, the Objective Structure Clinical Examination (OSCE) was conducted in the education of physical assessment techniques for three purposes : 1) development of an education program for a Simulated Patient (SP) in which a student plays the role of patients in OSCE, 2) study of the effectiveness of physical assessment technique evaluation using OSCE, and 3) construction of an OSCE system using SP. In the development of the SP education program, the learning content was carefully selected and a workshop on the devised education method was held, which was highly appreciated by the participants after the SP experience. OSCE as an evaluation of the physical assessment techniques was useful in mastering clinically utilizable techniques and led to the students' motivation for nursing practice. Also, OSCE has become an efficient system in which a limited number of teachers (4) evaluated 110 students.
