Research Abstract |
This research is based on the inventory survey in Japan and the UK, to try to develop a leadership program in Japan. This research has not limited the meaning of leadership to only the ability for management or team leading for the nurse. This research has aimed towards leadership as ability for all nurses needs to perform their tasks. 1. By investigating Japan, we have developed an index (SAIL) to measure the leadership role of the nurses and the ability of nursing itself. As a result, it showed that leadership did not always accord with ability for practice. The index that we have developed is a useful and can be expected for future practical use. 2. By the research of UK, we have found the efficient leadership program to train the front line nurses and introduced some information of the program to Japan. We have used this study to train the new nurses with the cooperation of hospitals which are interested in leadership. The training was combined with American programs and multiplex studies. We have agreed that this training program has been effective and these hospitals are hoping to go on further with both the research and the program.
