Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Demonstrated feasibility of concept Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) part manufacturing process with small-scale laboratory experiments. Optimised concept CFRP part manufacturing process with respect to formability, fibre-orientation, springback, curing phenomena and mechanical properties of formed parts. Benchmarked concept CFRP part manufacturing process against traditional autoclave-based process. Drafted 3 journal papers with view of publishing when further research has been completed. Developed relationships with United Kingdom (UK) Government representatives based in Japan with view of up-scaling research to Japanese and UK industry. Strengthened collaboration with Swansea University (UK) to source experimental sheet steel for future research. Developed collaboration with Oxford University (UK) to investigate multi-scale numerical simulation in future research.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Yanagimoto Laboratory at the University of Tokyo has provided all research facilities required to undertake the proposed research plan. Research has progressed to plan, with the addition of new research concepts that have emerged during the course of proposed research. Collaborations with other researchers in Yanagimoto Laboratory have been established to broaden the original research plan, to provide effective supervision of junior researchers and to generate more valuable research. Collaboration with Swansea University (UK) is in progress which will provide aluminised boron steel unattainable in Japan.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Up-scale concept Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) part manufacturing process with medium-scale laboratory experiments. Develop concept hybrid joining process between CFRP and High Strength Steel. Develop previously patented hot forming process for High Strength Steel in combination with concept hybrid joining process for optimised hybrid CFRP-steel parts. Numerical simulation of the hot forming process of High Strength Steel in collaboration with Oxford University (UK). Up-scaling of research to industry. Publication of up to 8 journal papers.
