Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The concept Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) part manufacturing process has been further developed with emphasis placed on application engineering. This has included fatigue, tensile and compressive crash-box testing of formed CFRP parts. A partial curing preliminary step in order to reduce cycle-time of the concept process yet further has been developed. Integrated joining of CFRP parts to steel parts has been developed. The effect of an additional layer of epoxy adhesive between the CFRP and steel was also investigated. A further journal paper and two conference papers have been drafted. Collaboration with Swansea University (UK) has led to the casting of an experimental steel chemistry for future research. Collaboration with the University of Oxford (UK) has continued development of a multi-scale numerical model for simulation of the austenite to martensite transformation.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Despite several delays to the original research plan, research has progressed satisfactorily, while new research concepts have also emerged during the course of originally proposed research.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Further develop the concept integrated forming, curing and joining process for CFRP-steel hybrid parts. This will involve development of the new experimental steel chemistry cast and processed in the UK. Publication of a further journal article.
