Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the fiscal year 30, I have presented my research at several international conferences. I have also completed the revisions of my journal article on the interaction of foreign and indigenous banks in modern Shanghai, which has now been accepted for publication by the journal Modern Asian Studies. Furthermore, I have completed a second article on the role of international finance during the Chinese 1911 revolution, which is now under review with an international journal. I have also continued to collect primary sources on foreign banking in China and Japan in Japanese and German libraries and archives, have made significant progress on completing my monograph and have started to work on the journal article comparing foreign banking in modern China and Japan.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My first journal article has been accepted for publication and a second journal article has been completed and is under review. Furthermore, I have made progress on completing my book manuscript and have started work on a third journal article. My collection of Chinese and Japanese primary sources and presentation of research at international conferences has also been satisfactory.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
During the fiscal year 31, I plan to mainly concentrate on completing my book manuscript and preparing it for submission to an academic press. I also wish to use this period to work on an article comparing the activities of foreign banks in the modern Chinese and Japanese economies and submit it to the journal Financial History Review. Finally, I intend to complete a proposal for a special journal issue or edited volume comparing the history of banking in modern China and Japan. This special journal issue or edited volume would be a future research project that would grow out of the research and collaboration at the University of Tokyo.
