Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In these four months of research activity: (1)We wrote and submitted two papers. The first is a meta-analysis about the effects of working-memory training on older adults’ cognitive performance (currently under review). The second one is a second-order meta-analysis regarding the different impact of cognitive training on cognitive ability across several populations (youngsters, adults, older adults; posted on PsyArXiv. (2)We collected the studies to carry out a quantitative review about the differences in cognitive profiles of expert and non-expert older adults. We are currently extracting the data. (3)We have prepared the battery of cognitive tests to be employed in our empirical study about the cognitive correlates of Igo expertise in young and old populations. (4)We translated (from Japanese into English) the variables and labels of the SONIC dataset. This dataset includes hundreds of variables about cognitive function, social and health habits, and well-being, in three cohorts of older adults. The translated variables will allow us to run the analyses.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In the first five months of work, we have made substantial progress in all the parts of the project except for the one involving the analysis of Igo players datasets (for the details see part 3a of the proposed plan in the application form). We also have managed to write and submit two large papers and others are in preparations.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
(1)Build a set Structural Equations Models of the SONIC dataset about the cognitive, social, and emotional correlates of successful aging (for details, see Part 2b of the proposed plan in the application form).(2)Finishing the extraction of the data, running the relevant models, and writing the quantitative review about the benefits of expertise on cognitive decline (see above, point 2).(3)Start the collection of the data for the empirical study comparing Igo and non-players (see Part 3b of the research plan in the application form).(4)Finally, analyze the datasets of professional Igo players (see Part 3a of the proposed plan in the application form).
