Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the first year of my JSPS program at Tohoku University, I successfully grew three series of the single crystals for scintillation application (34 single crystals). The crystals were grown from the melt with the micro-pulling-down method which is original technique in our Laboratory. The first series included 21 single crystals of Gd3Ga3Al2O12:Ce,Mg composition (Ce content varies between 0 and 1 % mol, Mg content varies between 0 and 3000 ppm). The second series included 8 crystals of Gd3Ga3Al2O12:Ce,Li composition (Ce content was 0.25 and 0.5 % mol, Li content varies between 0 and 3000 ppm). Third series included 5 crystals of Lu3-xLaxGa3Al2O12:Ce (La=0, 0.003, 0.03, 0.06, 0.015) composition. Fabricated crystals were tested for their phase purity, luminescence and scintillation properties.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Based on the presented report, the research activity of Karol Bartosiewicz during his first you of JSPS program is assessed as excellent. This assessment is motivated as follow: within one year he grew and examined luminescence and scintillation properties of 34 single crystals, presented results of his research on six international and domestic conferences as well as published one research article and one has been submitted to impacted Journal.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the second year of the JSPS program, I am planning to grow 2 sets of single crystals for scintillation application. The first series will include 6 crystals of Lu3Ga2.5Al2.5-xScxO12:Pr (Sc=o, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) composition. The second series will include 6 crystals of Lu3Al5O12:La (La= 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, 3 % mol) composition. The phase purity, luminescence and scintillation properties of the fabricated crystals will be studied. I am planning to present the results of above-mentioned crystals at the 19th International Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (ICCGE-19) Keystone, Colorado, U.S.A and 15th International Conference on Scintillating Materials and their Applications, Sendai, Japan.
