Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Synthesis of chiral binaphthyl dimers for guest binding is complete and the assessment of the binding of chiral guests is underway. The guest binding of chiral diamines is being investigated currently. Related byproduct work includes unsymmetrically substituted binaphthyl dimers prepared from reaction byproducts, which will also be investigated for binding of asymmetric guests. A related work on synthesis of chiral capsules for asymmetric guest binding is also being prepared for publication. Multiple oxidation-state molecule has been identified and interactions with chiral guests is being studied.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Synthesis has been completed ahead of schedule and the candidate has spent additional time isolating and purifying potentially interesting unsymmetrically substituted byproducts. Guest binding experiments have commenced so that the first phase of the project is on schedule.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The materials will be studied for their chiral guest binding properties with further synthesis work going on at the same time. The present compounds and similar supramolecular chromophores are being studied for their asymmetric induction in the synthesis of chiral targets.
