Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Purposes: the main purpose of the study was to identify the social, economic and ecological impacts of land grabbing on the sustainable forests development of Bangladesh and Japan. The study also analyzes the policy and legal arrangements of Bangladesh and Japan that have impacts on the land grabbing process.
Activities: The study was carried out in the Hokkaido Island of Japan and the major Sal forests of Bangladesh during 2017-2019. The study collected both primary and secondary data using different data collection techniques.
Findings: The study found out some in-depth findings on forestland grabbing scenario in Japan and Bangladesh. The Japanese foreigners based land grabbing case revealed that the economic outcomes of the land grabbing have benefited the local people and economy. Overall the Japanese land grabbing situation was totally opposite than that of developing countries experiences like-Bangladesh. Sal forestland grabbing of Bangladesh case showed some disappointing situation which would need immediate intervention by the government. In sustainable view point, the Japanese case showed positive outcomes. However, the Bangladesh cases concluded that the sustainability of the Sal forests had been severely affected which would need a coordinate approach from every stakeholders’ level.
Outcomes: The findings of the study have already been published in the three Journal articles and another one is one the way to publish. Simultaneously, the results of the study had also been presented in the different scientific conferences/workshops.
