タイプ２の信号検出理論を利用して、メタ認知の定量化を試みた。
その際に、タイプ２の感受性が、タイプ1の感受性のように反応基準に対して独立にならならいことを改良するために、確信度バランスに着目した最尤推定法を導入することで、バイアスフリーのメタ認知感受性を算出することができた。
この評価手法を、実際のデータに適用したところ、メタ認知感受性が、実験ブロックによって、適切に変動することが分かった。この変動は、タイプ1のクライテリアに依存せず、単なる確信度の高低や反応時間によって説明できるものではなく、またタイプ２のROC曲線との挙動とも、異なっていた。
